Le Merle Aux Alouttes – Domaine Alain Chabanon – Vin De Pays d’Oc 2002
Feb 16th, 2009 | By kdizzle | Category: Wine NotesWe had this Merlot mixed wine for dinner with our pasta, Australian beef tenderloin dinner. It presented a fruity flavor, with medium body and medium legs. This wine looks to have just come to maturation by the looks of the clear outer ring being ‘not so close’ to the glass upon inspection.
Alice loved this wine, so did I. It may lack a bit of character or depth, but it has enough to tantalize your senses and the fruity bouquet which follows through almost to the aftertaste is refreshing and just the way we like it.
We normally lean towards Merlots due to their fruitier and lighter nature, but often times find the complexity of such wines to be lacking, at least to my palate. This wine was light on tannins, I’ve read that 2001 was even better, but that will have to wait until another time.
